The New Age of Advertisement

For my semester project I’d like to create a compilation of Vine videos and Vine ads that show how advertisement itself is converging into different types of media. As we all already know, media’s sole purpose was to all sell us something which is why we have commercial interruptions and how events like the Super Bowl are heavily watched for commercials alone.

But with Vine a new form of advertising has emerged.

“This sort of home-grown, user-generated ad style is called ‘native advertising’ and industry analysts say corporate America is forecast to spend $4 billion this year alone on it – probably twice that much by the end of the decade,” according to ABC’s Nightline.

Instead of hiring professionals to create ads for social media, advertisers are seeking out popular viners to create six-second video pertaining to their products.

The reason I’d like to create a video compilation is to create awareness to how advertisers are converging into all different types of medias and how a simple app like Vine is an example of how amateurs are beginning to take over professionals’ work.

I’ll be looking into the top companies seeking out viners as well as the viners with most the most income from creating ads. I’d like to compare their salaries to those of perhaps professional actors or marketers. I’d also like to look into other social media apps that are adapting this new marketing trend.

I would hope that my video teaches the average consumer how heavily their lives revolve around advertisements and encourage them to be more aware of the subconscious psychological impact that ads have on their lives.
