Project Proposal

There is power in social media.  You can build up your brand on it and it can also destroy your brand.  Social media is our entrance to the world around us.  Twitter is probably the most powerful social media tool out there.  It literally connects us to the world.  According to twitter's about section, the site has a quarter-billion monthly users.

With twitter, we can take a look at what's going on across the world, just by reading a person's tweets. Twitter is shaping how races are portrayed to each other, and we don't even know it.  There are pictures floating around of people doing extremely absurd things for attention.  Below we have a white girl inappropriately showing her love for Justin Bieber and in another picture, we have a black female appearing to take her weave out in class.

Even-though they may be joking, these acts can leave ideas in people's heads about that race.  My final project is to create a video of pictures and tweets I find throughout the semester and examine the certain stereotypes and stigmas that may come across the viewer's mind.

We live in a world today, where everyone wants validation.  We want to prove that we are not worthless, we are something.  People are going to extreme boundaries to gain acceptance, and I am going to examine them in a video.

  1. Interesting topic. What if you framed it around one particular (or a few) social media personalities that either got positive reactions or negative reactions from their social media audiences. #worldstarfame

  2. Wold star Hiphop is a great place to start. Their impact on how black people are viewed is great. As far as white people the resources to grab from are endless...lol, which can also be a point in your project; the comparison of diverse white social media vs narrow limited view of black social media
