FAME WITH SOCIAL MEDIA
(Group 1: Gabe, Sarah, and Chinwe)
Our group decided to focus on one specific topic. We chose a topic that Clay Shirkey touched upon in his segment, "Publish, then Filter." Fame, but not just fame itself. Fame through social media and the Internet. We discussed several celebrities that started their careers on social media outlets like YouTube, MySpace, and Vine. Our point we wanted to express was that fame or in better words, success doesn't have to wait. We as students can become successful right now, social media is a huge tool for this. There are several examples of students who have actually done this.
For example, Rudy Mancuso who was a Rutgers - Newark student a few years ago. He was a film major who clearly had a lot of talent. He decided to make a vine account when this social media outlet was popular. Long story short he blew up on social media. This student who was in the same seats that we are in currently was just recently invited to the VMAs. Yes, Rudy is an extremely talented filmmaker. But our point to leave people with is that social media is an important tool to use to get yourself exposed and it increases your ability to become known.
