PROJECT PROPOSAL

I always believed that fashion was a sense of individualism, a source where anyone
can become a complete different person. Fashion was always something that gathered attention from bystanders and is constantly changing. If we look back into the revolutionary era, every fashion was the same in dependence to their status. Women of higher status had a different sense of fashion in comparison to the lower class women. However, within each status, the apparel did not change and remained to be constant.

In our generation today, we believe that fashion is to show our true colors and to become an individualism. This belief that we have can be stated both as true and false. It is true that everyone has the ability to create a fashion in their own liking, however, it is not their fashion. The fashion industry company has took control of media and heavily influences consumers till this day. We may believe that we do not follow anyone's style and have our own, but in actuality, our style is created and molded by the fashion industry through media. We see the "latest trends" through social media sites and there is no way to escape but look at what attracts us. Through media, the fashion industry has created this era of fashion where they "allow" people to have their style but still abide the rules of the fashion empire.

People are prone to follow one another to be the "latest trend" to show that they are individuals. When in reality, fashion is the same amongst everyone, it's a source for people to fit in. I will be looking into fashion and how the trends remain the same through every type of style and how people portray themselves through their own style. I will be making a video clip of the comparison between the fashion industry to regular people on the streets of New York.

Semester Project

Trying to figure out what my semester project would be was a little bit difficult. I soon came to realize that an outlet like YouTube would be perfect. For my semester project, I am going to base it on YouTube with one main star who I personally watch and like listening to, Jenna Marbles. I am going study and research why is something like YouTube so important, how we use it in the media, how Jenna Marble uses it to become such a large sensation and spectacle to thousands and thousands of people.

Hundreds, if not thousands, of videos and media content are posted onto YouTube. People have accounts, there are tutorials on how to curl your hair or how to cook a certain dish. Jenna Marbles, was just an average 28 year old girl from Rochester, NY. She went to Suffolk College in Boston for both her BS and graduate school and she received a Sports Psychology and Counseling degree. After school, she maintained countless jobs and on the side started making YouTube videos. People strated to like them and watch them and that is how she grew. Jenna Marbles, her real name being Jenna Mourey, net worth is 2.5 million dollars.

I'm not exactly sure what direction I want to go, but as a video production major I would like to produce a short video clip or montage for my final semester project. My objective is to tackle the effects and influences Reality TV has on our society, especially the teenagers of today. My main focus would be to compare the negative effects of reality TV to more positive based TV shows.

Another approach, I could take or include into my project is how the media is a major contributor in the behavior of teenagers of today. Also, how the media has gotten away from reporting important news to the people. Instead, the media spends just as much if not more, reporting entertainment news.

I just want to make people aware aware of the fact that you can have certain celebrity figures as role models you aspire to be like. But also, recognize there's more to life, and it's okay if you still want to be a school teacher or a police woman, it's okay to be the smartest person in class. Some of us get caught up in the lives of these reality TV stars, we loose focus of our own reality.

For my semester Project I would like to research on the how social media will influence people gathering to march. I attended the People Climate March almost two weeks ago and it was a surreal experience. I meet great people from all over the country who came to support and show interest for climate change. It was great to be around people who shared similar interest and cared enough to take action by supporting the march.  There where cameras and phones everywhere. I felt that everyone was recording videos or taking pictures through out the entire march. Many of these videos and pictures where uploaded to social media and used hashtags to group them together to spread awareness.

Now I’m left wondering what impact our actions are videos and pictures had, did we actually make a difference? I’m left with a sense of hopelessness. There have been other marches that gathered larger groups since the historic 1963 Civil Rights March on Washington. The 1963 March managed to gather about 2500,00 people without Facebook, Twitter or any Social Media. Ideally with social media today we should be able to raise awareness but is that all we can do? How can we use social media to take the next big step towards increasing the power everyday people have over decision and laws that impact their lives?
Marching on Washington is an American tradition

Intro // Marvin

My name is Marvin O. Pineda and I am a Video Production major at Rutgers  Newark. A couple of my major passions are film, music, sports, martial arts and making people laugh.  Throughout my busy day, I keep up with my Instagram and Facebook accounts. I follow, share and like things that truly interest me. I think it’s important to stay true to yourself by not getting indulged by the things that others may approve of. Media is everywhere now, there’s no escaping it, phones are taking over, less eye contact, more texting, where’s the fun in that? You should do and express the things you like and the right people will love you for it. This is a privilege we get to express, which is withheld from so many others around the world. I’ll be graduating in May 2015, and this will allow me the free time to begin my journey.

I want to make films that inspire, entertain and convey a sense of importance. Besides making films I love, I want to be financially successful with my films, I want to make millions, which will allow me to accomplish other goals of mine. I want to raise the standard of living for people everywhere. It’s 2014 and some airlines provided free Wi-Fi, yet there are millions of people that live in extreme poverty and do not have the privilege of a private toilet. I want to make a different in this matter in a large scale. Housing a family, building a school will not suffice, I need to do more and I hope people will believe in my cause and lend their support.

My mission is simple in nature but the execution is like begin across Mike Tyson in the 1st of 12 round of your fight. I want to house and build homes for people around the world, give kids that aren’t even born yet, the opportunity to better themselves and their communities. With the impact of social media today, I know that I can share my cause and reach people I could never have imagined meeting. Every class I’ve taken has inspired and influenced me in many different ways; I truly enjoy learning. Understand how culture and media are meshing together will allow me to project my mission as a Mission not just my mission. Getting people involved from all over the world in order to accomplish a simple yet complex goal.

Semester Project Proposal: Evan LeBlanc

For my semester project I would like to examine the role the citizen plays when it comes to discussion and reporting of the news. More specifically, the issues I would like to focus on are the recent killings of African Americans males across the US. What the project will focus on is how through pictures and cell phone videos, these makers were able to capture these key momentous events. The role the citizen plays in journalism is an important one, and through the fact that technology has evolved so tremendously it has allowed a nation to rally around these important issues in its small cities. Through social media interaction media makers, we have been able to document this movement, and this form has proven critical in equipping a world audience with news in its purest form.
As for the actual project, I would like to make a video collage of these events along with criticisms on each of these occurrences. What I would like to examine is why they occurred, and how they could have been avoided. This is important as the lives of Eric Garner, Michael Brown, and Ezell Ford to name a few, didn’t have to be taken under unjust circumstances. The video will act as a voice shedding light on the political and social disparity African Americans especially men when faced with these situations. The video will be made public on YouTube, accrediting all of the original owners who shot the original footage. As stated before the intention is to shift the swaying audience to pick a side and take social action.

Semester Project Proposal || Benjamin Gabe Nazario

I would like to do a video for my final project. I was enrolled in Imagery & Culture last semester & I produced a 3-4 minute video about how artists are not taken seriously in the work field. I incorporated a statement from President Obama, he stated in one of his speeches that he didn't think Art History was a good major. My plan is to do a video very similar to this one. I have added the link to this video.

As for a topic to specify on I am not entirely sure. I would like to continue to touch on the fact that artists are not treated properly or with enough respect. I am also interested in the stereotype that Christianity and the church have in this era. Many people see church as boring, this has not been my experience. Perhaps, I could do a short video to prove this. These are simply some proposals that I am still thinking about.
