Intro
With this video, Marvin Pineda is
seeking to spark conversations on Net Neutrality and the creation of a Bill of
rights for the Internet. Marvin’s goal is to create a well informed, easy to
digest video, in order to inform people on what is going on with the Net Neutrality
debates. This video lives on Youtube, which will allow access to viewers and
allow people to share the video with others. Marvin believes it’s important to
inform Internet users on Net Neutrality and spark conversations on this topic. Marvin
believes the Internet needs a clearly defined Bill of Rights, which states and
protects the freedom of the Internet and the rights its users.
Updates
I revised my monologue on Internet
Rights. I was not able to record a new video with this revised Monologue.
I also included other videos and
pictures about Net Neutrality.
My name is Marvin O. Pineda and I’m here today to speak on
behave of the Internet. Net neutrality insures that all Internet data transfer
speed is treated equally, regardless of who creates it. On May 15, 2014,
FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler proposed rules that would end Net Neutrality.
The debates on Net Neutrality are about Internet
Providers, like Comcast, Verizon, AT&T, want to create a Normal lane and a
Fast lane. They want to charge websites more money in order to allow access this fast lane. The fast lane will grant their consumer’s
fasters download speed. Everyone else who cannot pay the “fast lane” premium
would have their data transferred through the “normal lane”. Sites like Google,
Amazon, and Facebook are supporting Net Neutrality. In order to continue to
serve their customers with the highest service, they would have to meet the
premium price of the “fast lane”.
Ending Net Neutrality does not simply mean Google, Facebook, Netflix or Amazon are going have to pay up. It means everyone else who cannot afford t pay for the fast lane is stuck us using the normal lane. Will this make it impossible for smaller budgeted website to compete for customers. Will it make it impossible for any Competitor to ever Surpass Facebook, Google or Amazon? The same way Facebook surpassed Myspace. The only reason these debates on net neutrality are occurring, is because the Internet and its users lack a bill of rights. A Bill of rights for the Internet will not only protect the equality and freedom of the Internet, it will also protect its users.
The Internet is the greatest tool of communication we’ve ever
had. The greatness of the Internet lies in its ability to share Information and
creating an equal playing field for all its users. We like to be informed, we
like to know what’s going on around us, and we would like knowing the facts.
Information is so important to us. The Information we are exposed to influences
our decision-making. People all over the world are creating and sharing information
like never before. The amount of
information online is so massive that we our becoming our own gatekeepers;
decided what information we expose ourselves to. But the rights of Internet
users are not clearly defined. Each Internet business has its own privacy terms
and conditions. These terms and conditions may not serve its users best
interest.
The only way we can protect the freedom Internet and its
users is through an Established Bill of rights. An established bill of right
will protect the freedom of the Internet and create rules everyone who uses the
Internet has to adhere by. Creating
and Regulations these rules is no easy task, but Together lets Establish Laws
in order to protect the Freedom of Internet and it’s users.
Lets protect the
Internet for us today and the future generations to come. Lets us continue to
create and share our experiences and knowledge with one another. Lets use the Internet
to tackle the problems of today and prepare us for tomorrow.
Thank you for listening,
With Love,
Marvin.
